Persistent post-concussion symptoms

The scan was clear. You still don’t feel like you.

Measure where your brain is. Correct the systems keeping you stuck. Measure again at 8 weeks. From home.

You rested. You followed instructions. You waited. Months later, the fog has not lifted.

What you are feeling is the output, not the cause. The injury healed. The systems it disrupted did not.

  • Brain fog
  • Headaches and head pressure
  • Fatigue that sleep does not fix
  • Anxiety that was not there before
  • Poor sleep
  • Memory lapses and lost words
  • Light and noise sensitivity
  • Lost focus

What are persistent post-concussion symptoms?

Persistent post-concussion symptoms are concussion symptoms that continue beyond the expected recovery window. The 2022 Amsterdam consensus on concussion in sport defines persisting symptoms as those lasting more than four weeks, in children and adults.

They are not rare. In the TRACK-TBI study of 1,154 people with mild traumatic brain injury, 53% still reported functional limitations one year after injury, compared with 38% of people with orthopedic injuries.

They are not imaginary. A clear CT or MRI rules out bleeding and structural damage. It does not measure how your brain is regulating energy, chemistry and stress.

You are not imagining it. You are not weak. Your system is still dysregulated, and a dysregulated system can be measured and corrected.

Simone Fortier, founder of the Fascia Training Institute, on why a clear scan and persistent symptoms are not a contradiction.

The Concussion Recovery Gap

The Concussion Recovery Gap is the distance between being medically cleared and actually feeling like yourself. Standard care measures the first. Almost no one measures the second.

You were cleared because the injury healed. You are still struggling because the systems it disrupted did not. That gap is where most people are left alone, and it is the exact gap this program was built to close.

Three beliefs that keep people stuck in the gap

“Nothing works for persistent concussion symptoms.”

What has not worked is treating symptoms one at a time, or waiting. Correcting the systems that produce the symptoms is a different approach, and its results are measured.

“It has been too long. My brain is permanently like this.”

In Simone’s research, adults whose symptoms had lasted more than five years still improved. Chronic does not mean fixed. It means the system has not yet been corrected.

“My doctor said to wait it out.”

Waiting is reasonable in the first weeks. Past four weeks, international consensus recommends active, collaborative care. Waiting longer is not a plan. It is the gap.

This is the gap no one is addressing. This is where it changes.

Why time alone does not fix it

Time heals tissue. It does not recalibrate a system that has adapted to injury. After a concussion, four systems can stay disrupted long after the scan comes back clear.

01

Brain chemistry

The chemical messengers behind focus, mood, calm and memory fall out of balance. Dopamine, serotonin, GABA and acetylcholine all draw on nutrients an injured brain is short of.

02

Nervous system load

The autonomic nervous system stays on high alert. The brain treats ordinary demand as threat. Recovery stalls because the system never fully downshifts.

03

Fuel and inflammation

The brain’s energy supply and inflammatory signaling stay disrupted. Cognitive stamina drops. You can do the work, but you pay for it all evening.

04

Tension in the head and neck

Force from the impact is held in the connective tissue of the head and neck. Restriction there adds pressure, headache and strain to a system already overloaded.

Until these systems are corrected together, symptoms persist. That is why you can look fine and still feel off.

What happens in the brain after a concussion

A concussion triggers an energy crisis in the brain. Researchers Christopher Giza and David Hovda at UCLA describe it as a neurometabolic cascade: ions flood across cell membranes, glutamate surges, and the brain’s demand for fuel spikes while blood flow drops.

In most people, the cascade settles within days to weeks. In some, it does not settle completely. The brain adapts to protect itself, and the adaptation becomes the new baseline.

What the brain is doing

  • Energy production stays strained
  • Chemical messengers stay imbalanced
  • Inflammatory signaling continues
  • Stress sensitivity stays high

What you feel

  • Brain fog and cognitive fatigue
  • Mood swings and low motivation
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Anxiety and irritability

This is not psychological weakness. It is post-injury dysregulation. And it is treatable.

Stop living in “almost recovered”

You survived the concussion. You did not get your brain back.

You do not feel fully sharp. You do not feel fully steady. You do not feel fully you.

No one else can see it. They see someone who looks normal. They do not see the effort it takes to get through a day.

You have been told it takes time. You have been told it might be your new normal.

It does not have to be.

Your brain went into protection mode to survive. Now it needs the right conditions to come out of it.

Brain Health Assessment total score

79%

symptom improvement

I lived with persistent post-concussion symptoms for more than four years. Nothing truly helped—until I began working with Simone Fortier.

Through the Brain Reset Program, my symptoms improved by 79%. I had more energy, could think more clearly, and felt a calm I hadn’t experienced in years.

Returning to work meant being able to do what I love again. As a therapist, I also began incorporating the protocols that had helped me into my own practice. I saw my clients make progress where they had previously felt stuck.

The difference was personal before it became professional. I felt like myself again.

Thank you, Simone.

“My symptoms improved by 79%. I could finally return fully to work.”

How the Brain Reset Program works

The Brain Reset Program is a measured, five-step recovery process delivered entirely online. Every step is built on your own data, and progress is read from that data, not from impressions.

1

Complete your Brain Health Assessment

An online assessment, about 15 minutes. It maps your symptom patterns across focus, mood, calm, memory, sleep and stress, and sets your baseline.

2

First private consultation with Simone (45 minutes, online)

Simone interprets your results, identifies which systems are carrying the most load, and reviews every supplement and medication you take.

3

Receive your personalized Brain Reset program

Targeted brain nutrition, a supplement protocol matched to your results, and nervous system regulation strategies you use at home. Supplements are purchased separately.

4

Reassess at 8 weeks

You complete the same assessment again. On this assessment, lower scores mean improvement. Change is measured, not guessed.

5

Second consultation and refined program

Simone reviews what changed and builds your next-phase program from the new data.

What the $1,197 Concussion Recovery Package includes

This is a system recalibration process, not a consultation. Each component has one job.

ComponentWhat it does
Baseline Brain Health AssessmentMaps your symptom patterns and sets the starting point every result is measured against
First 45-minute private consultation with SimoneTurns your data into a clinical picture: which systems are overloaded, and in what order to correct them
Full supplement and medication reviewRemoves guesswork and duplication. Brand, dose and timing matter, and they are checked
Personalized Brain Reset program, phase oneNutrition, supplementation and nervous system regulation matched to your results
8-week reassessmentShows what moved and what did not, in numbers
Second 45-minute private consultation with SimoneReads the change and adjusts the plan
Personalized Brain Reset program, phase twoYour refined protocol for the next stage of recovery

Two assessments. Two consultations. Two programs. One measured path back.

Picture your 8-week reassessment

You open your results. For the first time since the injury, you are not guessing how you are doing. You are looking at it.

You can see which systems moved. You know what to do next, because Simone has already built it. You are not waiting for a good day. You are following a plan.

That is the shift. From managing symptoms to correcting the system. From “almost recovered” to measured progress.

The only question is whether that reassessment happens eight weeks from now, or not at all.

Why this works when waiting has not

Most post-concussion care manages symptoms one at a time or asks you to wait. The Brain Reset Program corrects the systems that produce the symptoms.

The hands-on method: multi-practitioner study

The hands-on arm of Simone’s method, Dynamic Brain Healing, was studied separately in 41 adults whose symptoms had persisted for more than five years. After two sessions, delivered by practitioners from athletic therapy, massage therapy and manual osteopathy, 11 of 41 outcomes improved significantly more than in a comparison group receiving other care. All 11 showed large effect sizes. They included sadness, difficulty remembering and headache.

About this data. The Brain Health Assessment is a self-report instrument, not a diagnostic test, and it does not directly measure neurotransmitter levels. Neither dataset is randomized. Clients chose whether to follow the program, and the time between assessments varied (median 157 days). Results held whether clients were followed for under three months or over a year. We publish these limits because measured recovery should be held to a measured standard. Longitudinal follow-up is underway.

From people who had tried everything

Simone’s methods don’t just resolve injuries; they create lasting improvements in brain health, recovery, and performance.

Questions about persistent post-concussion symptoms

Why won’t my concussion symptoms go away?

Concussion symptoms persist when the systems disrupted by the injury do not fully recalibrate. Brain chemistry, nervous system load, energy supply and tension in the head and neck can stay out of balance long after the brain has structurally healed. A clear scan rules out structural damage. It does not show how these systems are regulating.

Can you recover from post-concussion symptoms months or years later?

Yes, change is possible years after the injury. In Simone Fortier’s multi-practitioner study of 41 adults whose symptoms had lasted more than five years, 11 of 41 outcomes improved significantly more after two hands-on sessions than with other care. Chronic does not mean fixed. It means the system has not yet been corrected.

My CT and MRI were normal. Why do I still have symptoms?

Standard CT and MRI scans detect bleeding, swelling and structural injury. They are not designed to detect the functional changes that keep symptoms going, such as disrupted energy metabolism, chemical imbalance and an overactive stress response. A normal scan is good news. It is not proof that you have recovered.

What helps brain fog after a concussion?

Brain fog after a concussion usually reflects a brain that is short on fuel and overloaded by stress. What helps is correcting both: targeted brain nutrition, nervous system regulation, and measuring change over time rather than waiting. The Brain Reset Program builds these into a plan matched to your Brain Health Assessment results.

Can anxiety or depression start after a concussion?

Yes. Mood changes, anxiety and irritability are recognized post-concussion symptoms, and they are not a sign of weakness. They often reflect a nervous system stuck on high alert and imbalances in the systems that regulate mood and calm. In Simone’s study, sadness was among the outcomes that improved most. Continue working with your physician for any mood symptoms.

What is the Brain Reset Program?

The Brain Reset Program is an online recovery process for persistent post-concussion symptoms, created by Simone Fortier, founder of the Fascia Training Institute. It includes two Brain Health Assessments, two private 45-minute consultations with Simone, two personalized programs of targeted brain nutrition and nervous system regulation, and a full supplement review.

What is included in the $1,197 Concussion Recovery Package?

The package includes a baseline Brain Health Assessment, an 8-week reassessment, two private 45-minute online consultations with Simone Fortier, two personalized Brain Reset programs and a full supplement and medication review. Supplements are purchased separately. Hands-on Dynamic Brain Healing sessions are available separately and are not required.

How is progress measured?

Progress is measured by repeating the Brain Health Assessment at 8 weeks and comparing it with your baseline. On this assessment, lower scores mean improvement. The assessment is a symptom-based questionnaire. It is not a diagnostic test and does not directly measure neurotransmitter levels. It tracks the patterns those systems produce.

Do I need to travel?

No. The Brain Reset Program is delivered entirely online, including both assessments and both consultations. Clients who also want hands-on Dynamic Brain Healing can book sessions separately, online or in person in Calgary, Alberta and Scottsdale, Arizona.

What if I have had more than one concussion?

Multiple concussions often mean more accumulated load on the same systems, and the program is designed for that. Your assessment results show which systems are carrying the most load, and your plan is built around them. Tell Simone about every head injury in your first consultation, including ones that were never diagnosed.

Can I continue my other treatments and medications?

Yes. The Brain Reset Program works alongside physical therapy, vestibular therapy, vision therapy and medical care. Do not stop or change any prescribed medication without your physician’s direction. Your supplement and medication review checks for duplication and interactions with what you already take.

Is the program covered by insurance or HSA/FSA?

The Brain Reset Program is not billed to insurance directly. A detailed receipt is available on request. Whether you can claim it through insurance, an HSA or an FSA depends on your plan, so check with your provider before you purchase. Programs are non-refundable.

What if I don’t improve?

If you follow your program exactly as directed for the full 8 weeks and your reassessment shows no improvement, your third consultation with Simone and a revised program are included at no cost. As directed means every recommended nutrient at the specified dose and timing, both consultations attended, and your reassessment completed on schedule, with nothing skipped or substituted.
